ATTENDANCE POLICY

The GRADS Program has unique needs that require student absences to be reported before 8:30 a.m. This attendance policy is necessary in order to provide an adequate number of childcare providers in the nursery. Excused absences require a note from parent/guardian contact to the GRADS office within two days of absence.

CLOSED CAMPUS

GRADS has a closed campus policy, which require students to remain on campus during school hours.

MEALS

A nourishing, healthy breakfast and lunch is available and delivered through BSD’s Food Services for qualifying students. The GRADS classroom has a refrigerator and microwave available for student use. Food Services menus are available online at www.bham.wednet.edu/departments/foodservices/menus.htm

GRADS students are encouraged to eat well-balanced, nutritious meals as outlined in the BSD’s Nutrition and Fitness Policy (3440p). The development of good nutritional habits is an important part of the GRADS curriculum; therefore, students are not allowed to bring unhealthy foods or drinks into the classroom. Students can use their lunch break to spend time with their infants.

VISITORS

Parent visits are always welcome; however, visits are limited to 30 minutes and must be approved two days in advance. Visitors must comply with GRADS, School District, and State guidelines, which include a complete criminal history background check. Only immediate family is allowed to visit the daycare center.

Prospective students are encouraged to make arrangements to visit the program classroom through the GRADS teacher or administrator.

CHILDCARE

The GRADS Childcare Center is a fully licensed facility with S.T.A.R.S. accredited staff. The daycare is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a ratio of one caregiver to three babies. Childcare is available for infants 1 month to 18 months of age. A variety of appropriate developmental activities are planned to meet the needs of each child.
